Roundhouse Community Centre Field Trip

I went to the Roundhouse Community Centre with my classmates yesterday. I went there by my car. It’s located in Yale town at the corner of Davie and Pacific.
It was built over 100 years ago, so it’s historical building. It used to be a train station.
There are celebrate diversity offer arts and health and fitness courses to people of all ages.
I was impressed how the historical building provides diversity for people to enjoy community. This field trip was very useful for me. There are volunteer opportunities for us and the membership cost is very reasonable and affordable. There are so many things we can learn from at the Roundhouse. Most of all I’m interested in learning Pickle ball. I’d like become a member and I’ll try next time.

Children's Festival volunteering

Our classmates went to Granville Island last Friday May 31st and the weather was really nice. We met in front of the KEG restaurant at 9 am. It’s located near the entrance to Granville Island.
First of all, we went together to the Volunteer House. We signed up and our volunteer shift began officially. After that, Ikue and I worked in the Face Painting booth with other volunteers where we helped children line up and get Tattoos. We removed the white protective cover sheet and carefully applied the tattoo face down on their hands. Each time we put tattoos on children's hands, they loved it. But one girl cried, which suprised us at first, but other than that, volunteering was amazing!
After three hours, we finished our shift. I was pleased to see children smile and hear them say thank you. I am looking forward to appying more volunteering.

How I cope with Stress

When I feel stressed, I like to take a bath with music on, cry and take a nap, and read funny books or watch movies. I stay in hot water with music, taking a bath helps me to soothe my muscles and calms me down. I sometimes cry out loud which makes me to take out all the stuff that were stuck in my heart. Then I take a nap after I wake up I feel much better. Other times, I watch comical movies or read entertaining books.  Falling into a beautiful scene in a movie or into a catch part of a book makes me forget who I am and where I am. Before I notice I'm already recharged, ready to go. I can smile.

What a beautiful Stanley Park!

I went to Stanley Park on Monday April 22nd with my classmates and teacher. The weather was fantastic. We met at the end of Chilco street that is nearby Lost Lagoon. The Lost Lagoon was the largest lake at Stanley Park.
First time, we took a picture with classmates. We came across several animals in the Lost Lagoon : Canada geese, grey squirrel, great blue heron and mallard duck. After then we along Tatlow walk. We saw the three main conifers in BC that is Western red cedar, Douglas fir, Western hemlock. Western hemlock has relative smooth bark. Douglas fir has thick, rough bark and provide a sleeping place for bat. Western red cedar's bark felt soft and stringy when we touched it. We hugged the massive tree. It took 8 people to reach around the tree. We continued along Bridle Path. We found skunk cabbage that it provide a powerful laxative for bears.
After finising field trip, I feel satisfied. Nature is priceless. I would like to go there with my frends on weekend.

Practicing Letter of Complaint Writing

Dear Ms. Dawson,

We are writing to complain about pizza day's the menu of doughnuts and sugary drinks.
I sent e-mail about changing the menu and I even received reply letter. But the menu still didn't change. Would you reconsider it?
We think pizza day is a good idea and children love it too. Pizza day fundraising is important to the development of the school. However, sugary drinks and doughnuts are not healthy to teeth.
We hope you will set a better example concerning childhood obesity.
We would appreciate healthier food  for children, such as vegetables and milk. Would you consider changing the menu?
We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Parents of the 2nd grade

A One-of -a-kind Hotel

When I read Jules' Undersea Lodge in Key Largo column, I got a wish. I wanted to go there.
Couple of years ago, I was very close to going to the hotel.
My family visited Ernest Hemingway's house.
Ernest Hemingway is regarded as one of the 20th century's greatest writers.
His house is located Key West FL, USA.
Jules' Undersea Lodge and Hemingway's house are very nearby.
If I knew then, we would have at least visited the lodge.
I wonder how it is built, completely undersea.
I bet my son and doughter would love to see that hotel, too.
Scuba diving is not my cup of tea, but I will try and I will enjoy everything, if the chance comes.
I'll have a ball at the lodge.

Cruising the Carribbean Sea

My family went on a cruise trip around Western Caribbean Sea, 3 years ago. It was the most fascinating 8 days of my life. The experiences I have never heard of before.
'Oasis of the Seas' was the biggest, the most recent and finally the most magnificent cruise ship. The food was great. The formal and also the informal parties that we attended to were very new to us. The clear blue ocean showed me the sea life.
In the middle of the trip, the cruise ship docked to Mexico Cozumel. We visited the Mayan Civilization. We looked lots of humongous tombs. Additionally we visited Haiti.
Oasis of the Seas is the most great also expensive cruise ship. It is very worthy while. I guarantee that you'll love it.

Spring Break !

Hey Jenny,
How are you feeling these days?
Haven't seen you for days.
Did you have fun in Spring Break? I spent my Spring Break in Tofino. I went there with my friends. Tofino is located in Vancouver Island so we sailed on the ferry. Also from Victoria, it took five hours drive all the way up. Too long and tiring. However we were so gleeful that we reached the destination.
We had many great experience. With one throw of crab net, we caught huge amount of the sea life. My son and my friend's daughter were so excited, but it was us, my friend and I who were most thrilled. Before long we were steaming the crabs.  We devour them instantly. They tasted so good!

The next day we went whale watching on the way to Hot springs cove. Sadly we haven't seen any whales. Hot springs cove is not man made which was a new surprise for me. Created by our wonderful mother nature. Out side was freezing cold, It was windy and also snowing.  It felt as if the stairs that we had to take in our swimming suit to go into the comforting water, was tens and hundreds of kilometers. The water was nice and warm and it relaxed me. The hot spring itself was fascinating.
Hope you can visit the hot springs cove also,
your best friend, Soomi.
